Turns an Android phone into a remote, cast and mirroring tool for Samsung, LG and Philips TVs; 10K+ downloads.
+TV is an Android remote, cast and screen-mirroring app for smart TVs, with 10K+ downloads on Google Play. I built it with a fellow developer at Garage.ist. Samsung and LG came with SDKs; Philips had none, so I reverse-engineered its undocumented JointSpace API and wrote that integration myself.
Getting a Philips TV to respond took two to five days. Mapping every endpoint took about three weeks. What documentation existed sat on old, half-abandoned pages, so most of the API came out of Philips' own remote app: its logs, read with CatLog, and the traffic it sent to the TV's IP address, captured with Wireshark. Everything was then confirmed by trial and error against a real set.
Key Highlights
- 10K+ downloads on Google Play.
- Samsung via the Tizen SDK, LG via ConnectSDK.
- Philips JointSpace API reverse-engineered with CatLog and Wireshark: working in 2–5 days, fully mapped in about 3 weeks.
- PIN pairing as a state machine over HTTP Digest (401 challenge–response with a nonce).
- Nonce expiry and the TV's self-signed certificate handled in the client.
